Mystery Art Box Challenge Live Edition
Marina Del Rey Middle School hosted an amazing event. The art showcase included collaborative artworks by all eight Team Prime Time schools. Highlighted displays were Anti- Bullying Projects, Media Arts Photography, Seasonal Canvas Projects and Art For A Cause coloring sheets for Color A Smile. The coloring sheets will be mailed to Color A Smile and they will be distributed with Meals on Wheels.
The event started with the art instructor mini challenge. Nancy from Marina Del Rey Middle School won with her magic themed wall clock design.
For the main event, we had 45 students participate! It has been our largest event to date! Fashion Alert! The student teams had to create one outfit and a minimum of two accessories with only the mystery supplies. Four mystery boxes were on display at the front of the room. Every ten minutes, a box was opened and revealed the next item. At the end, teams had newspaper, cardboard, duct tape and packing bubbles.
When the hour was up, our guest judge, Glenna Avila, and the students judged the projects and declared Webster Middle School the winner!
We were lucky to have Glenna Avila judge for us for the fourth time. She is an award winning, local artist and artistic director of the Community Arts Partnership program at the California Institute of Art. She shared her work with the students, including photos of her famous mural “L.A. Freeway Kids” that is on the Hollywood 101 South freeway. She spoke with the students about going to college for art and the various career paths art has to offer. The next MABC Live Edition is March 31 at Emerson Community Charter Middle School. We can’t wait to see what the students come up with next!

WSA Cup – Flag Football Tournament
Emerson went undefeated by defeating Marina Del Rey MS and Westside Global Awareness Magnet (WGAM), with a final record of 2-0. Marina Del Rey MS ended up going 1-1 by defeating WGAM.
